New Horizontal Link Ad Units

AdSense has added some new ad formats into the mix, see images of them below. They are horizontal versions of link ads. It will be intersting to see if publishers have any luck with them. The general consensus about link ads seems to be that they don’t perform as well as regular ads, but these might do a little better.

It’s interesting you say there is a consensus that Google Adsense link ads don’t perform as well as regular adsense ads? I manage over 20,000 pages and many blogs both for myself and for several clients. Our statistics have shown that the Google link ads perform great.

The fact that they appear “like” navigational links or lists of links makes their placement on the page criticle, but if placed well, my results have been great. Often better than the regular ads.

The newest format you’ve mentioned here is VERY interesting. I’ve only just begun experimenting with this new format, but I’m optimistic.

Here is an example I used on a landing page (where I do NOT want ads)….
    http://www.Blog-zilla.com

In the above example, I added the new format as footer links. They do not distract from my page, yet if anyone reads all the way through the Blog-zilla page and has no interest… the footer links are there. And for some, the footer links might appear to be links to OTHER pages on the Blog-zilla.com site. So, I’m expecting curious visitors to click as they explore the details about my page.

While my post here is about the new Google Ads list format, I’d be remiss not to recommend Blog-zilla for those seeking a lot of unique content auto-created and auto posted to multiple blogs. It’s a “Moolah maker!”

I’m glad you get good performance from link ads. Most comments I’ve heard from people say that they haven’t been performing well, but I knew there must be some people out there having success with them. My own experiments with text links on a few web sites have shown a CTR that is only about 1/5 of regular ad unit CTR.

It looks like people are getting some good initial results with the horizontal link units. I’ve started experimenting with them as well.
